A group of people in contemplative prayer kind of adopted me and said: ‘You’re giving all the time. You need something to feed you.’  And so, I have learned some of that self-care that pastors have such a hard time doing in the practice that is very prescriptive. I tend to use Centering Prayer in my day job because I do pasturing half-time. I work at a hospital and so, when all that drama is going on around you, what I often talk about – and we talk about in ministry – is being the non-anxious presence [which] has been made much easier by the practice of Centering Prayer.
