Resting in God is when you have simplified
your acts of the will in such a way
that you don’t have to keep saying a sacred word
in order to maintain the disposition
of consent and surrender and receptivity
that characterize the spiritual meaning of rest.
As Jesus put it, “Come to me all who labor,
making too much effort” – that’s a paraphrase –
“and I will give you rest.”
You are no longer doing anything
except resting in the fruit of the labors
you’ve been through
or of the other acts you exercise
—in reading, responding, and reflecting
—and now there’s nothing more to do
because you’ve said all you want to say,
so what do you do?
Nothing, but just rest.

I do not busy myself with great matters,
with things too sublime for me.
Rather, I have stilled my soul,
hushed it like a weaned child.
Like a weaned child on its mother’s lap,
so is my soul within me
... hope in the Lord,
now and forever.

La Trinidad y la Oración como Relación
Descansando en Dios
Descansar en Dios es cuando hemos simplificado nuestros actos de voluntad
de tal manera que no tengamos que seguir pronunciando una palabra sagrada
para mantener la disposición a consentir, a entregarnos y a ser receptivos, que es lo que caracteriza el significado espiritual del descanso.
Como lo expresa Jesús, “Vengan a mi todos los que laboran
haciendo demasiado esfuerzo”
– que es una paráfrasis – “y yo les daré descanso.”
Ya no estamos haciendo nada más excepto descansar
en los frutos de las labores que hemos llevado a cabo
o de las otras acciones que hemos realizado
– leyendo, respondiendo y reflexionando
– y ahora ya no hay nada más que hacer
porque hemos dicho todo lo que queríamos decir,
por lo tanto ¿qué hacemos ahora?
Nada, simplemente descansar.

No me he ocupado en grandes asuntos
con cosas demasiado sublimes para mí.
He aquietado mi alma como un bebé destetado,
como un niño destetado en el regazo de su madre,
así está mi alma dentro de mí.
