In Contact with What Is

Love Matters are wisdom words from Fr. Thomas Keating spoken during the filming of the new series God is Love: The Heart of All Creation. Some are included in the series; others are from footage published here for the first time. A new word will be posted every Monday throughout the year. May they serve to inspire hope and lift your heart.

It’s God’s will that is ultimately the most important thing.  And his will is to transform this thinking animal into a spitting image, you might say, of Jesus Christ in his humanity that was totally possessed by the Word of God.

So that’s the great model for Christians and that’s why Mary was chosen and was so significant in the early church we’re told, because she is the image of what Baptism is supposed to do, that is, to bring forth the Word of God in our humanity. So it’s an awesome, awesome event which is, it seems to me, a statement that God’s plan is to make us God too because I don’t know how you can get any closer to God than to be shoved into the bosom of the Father.

The experience of silence, especially if it‘s quite deep and one experiences a certain pure awareness, even if it’s brief, you’re in contact with What Is and This is obviously in love with you or loving you.
