You have two sides: the psychological unconscious divided into personal and collective, and then you have on the other side, the ontological unconscious, which is grace and it can be distinguished into the Fruits and Gifts of the Spirit.
It keeps evolving. That’s what we mean by the stages of consciousness, that as silence is established and developed, then the whole psyche – body, soul and spirit – opens up to the Divine and begins to perceive things as they are. If it has good qualities you emphasize those; if it has real limitations you avoid those.
Fr. C: You called your book Open Mind, Open Heart and sometimes people wonder what "open minds" means and this is a wonderful way of saying that "open mind" is the realization of these two unconscious’.
Fr. T.: Exactly. Yes. That simplifies it in some ways.
Fr. C: It really does.
Fr. T: And it embraces the idea of healing and development and growth and spiritual evolution.
Fr. C: Wonderful.
Fr. T: That’s the idea.
Fr. C: It’s a whole different way of looking at the practice of virtue.
¿Qué Significa Tener la Mente Abierta?
Tenemos dos lados: el inconsciente psicológico dividido en personal y colectivo, y en el otro lado el inconsciente ontológico, que es gracia y que puede diferenciarse en Frutos y Dones del Espíritu.
Y esto sigue evolucionando. Esto es lo que queremos decir cuando hablamos de etapas de la conciencia: al establecerse y desplegarse el silencio, entonces toda la psiquis – cuerpo, alma y espíritu – se abren a lo Divino y se comienza a percibir las cosas como son. Si hay buenas cualidades las reforzamos; si hay reales limitaciones las evitamos.
Padre C: Has elegido como título de tu libro Mente Abierta, Corazón Abierto, y algunas personas se preguntan qué significa ¨mente abierta”. Una maravillosa manera de expresarlo es decir que “mente abierta” es darse cuenta de estos dos inconscientes.
Padre T: Exactamente. Sí, eso lo simplifica de algún modo.
Padre C: Realmente lo hace.
Padre T: Y expresa la idea de sanación y desarrollo, y crecimiento y evolución espiritual.
Padre C: Maravilloso
Padre T: Esa es la idea
Padre C: Es una manera totalmente diferente de ver la práctica de las virtudes.
