What God is Asking Us to Accept

Love Matters are wisdom words from Fr. Thomas Keating spoken during the filming of the new series God is Love: The Heart of All Creation. Some are included in the series; others are from footage published here for the first time. A new word will be posted every Monday throughout the year. May they serve to inspire hope and lift your heart.

The love of God is trying to make us equal, in some respects, to himself, at least from the psychological perspective – in other words, to have the same freedom, the same peace, the same infinite sense of well-being, security, the same love. That’s what God is asking us to accept and he’ll take care of our sins, if we would do that.

So here we are in this situation as we discussed earlier, in which we’re are emerging in our evolutionary process from the instincts and attitudes and spontaneity of animal life into self-reflective consciousness that operates with a different set of values and is meant to moderate or control these lower functions of living with the possibility and the call and the divine plan of transforming the human organism as a kind of microcosm of all creation, into a sharer in the divine life.
