I was diagnosed with breast cancer 18 years ago and it was Centering Prayer that helped me through that diagnosis and treatment, that let me just rest and know that I was held in God’s love. And that was such a great gift to my daily life that I had that practice and that the anxiety and the fear, once I felt held in God’s love, would just disappear and I could be joyful and be in the moment and be filled with gratitude.  And I think another thing is that Contemplative Outreach is the organization that helped make this possible to me so I became a presenter and for many years my main use of the presenter training – one of the main uses – besides being in a prayer group and doing some presentations, I worked specifically with people who were diagnosed with cancer or other diseases and taught them that prayer because with the Centering Prayer, even though you don’t feel good, you can rest in God’s presence. You can say that sacred word and just feel held. You may not be able to do much else but that is a medicine and comfort in itself.
