Centering Prayer has made God’s intimate love more real to me and I know that I listen to people better and in particular I remember one time recently when I was teaching and a student who was particularly troublesome to me because he wasn’t obeying my rules was negotiating for leniency and I just remember almost someone tapped me on my shoulder, telling me to go into my heart and to listen to him before reacting. And that gave the whole situation a much more relaxed feeling and we were able to come to common ground where we could agree on an outcome that was acceptable to both of us. So, I became a more flexible person and a person who wasn’t so strict in enforcing rules, but, rather, willing to look at the human element in a situation.
La oración Centrante ha hecho que el amor íntimo de Dios sea mucho más real para mí, y sé que escucho mejor a la gente. En especial recuerdo una vez hace poco tiempo cuando estaba dando clase, y un estudiante que me resulta especialmente molesto porque no obedece mis reglas estaba negociando para que fuera indulgente con él. Recuerdo que casi fue como si alguien me tocara el hombro diciéndome que bajara a mi corazón y lo escuchara antes de reaccionar. Y eso hizo que la situación fuera mucho más relajada, y pudimos llegar a un arreglo y acordar un resultado que fuera aceptable para ambos. Me he vuelto una persona más flexible, alguien que no es tan estricto en hacer cumplir las reglas, y en cambio estoy dispuesto a considerar el elemento humano de cada situación.
