I worked as a chaplain in a very intensive Level 1 Trauma Center hospital here in Denver. And Centering Prayer really helped me minister to the patients and families that were in – many, many times – very grave conditions and very horrific conditions, many times. And I think that helped my compassion increase and be present to these people. I’ve definitely become much more non-judgmental over the years. I look at things through different eyes. I accept more people. I don’t get as upset as I used to get. I think it’s a general feeling that all of us have that do Centering Prayer on a daily basis. I think Contemplative Outreach is important to our world in that it is bringing the teaching of Centering Prayer, Christian mediation, to more and more people and I think the world is hungry for this. Because of the massive explosion of this method, this technique, that’s going around the world at a rapid pace – that didn’t really exist 25- 30 years ago.
La Oración Centrante: una ayuda para asistir con compasión en un Departamento de Urgencias
Trabaje como capellán en el Departamento de Urgencias Nivel 1 de un hospital aquí en Denver. Y la Oración Centrante realmente me ayudó a asistir a los pacientes y sus familias, que estaban muy, muy a menudo en gravísimo estado y atravesando terribles situaciones. Y creo que la oración me ayudó a que aumentara mi compasión y a poder estar presente para esas personas. Sin duda me he vuelto mucho menos moralista con el paso de los años. Miro las cosas con ojos diferentes. Acepto más a las personas. No me amargo como solía hacerlo. Creo que es un sentimiento que tenemos en común todos los que hacemos Oración Centrante diariamente. Pienso que Contemplative Outreach es importante para nuestro mundo porque lleva las enseñanzas de la Oración Centrante, de la meditación cristiana, a más y más personas, y creo que el mundo está deseoso de recibirlas. Y todo debido a la explosión masiva de este método, de esta técnica que se expande a gran velocidad por el mundo y que no existía hace 25 o treinta años
