What silence does – it morphs into the presence of God. So the silence is not just silence or emptiness or nothingness but it’s a preliminary to that and the best preparation there is because then there’s no obstacle. And God’s love – since it’s so pervasive – just comes in, like the weather, and like it, fills any empty space. And personally I think that certainly, for much of my life – but I think in most people’s lives – it doesn’t cross their minds how close a relationship God has with us and wants to have.
So that’s why I keep mentioning the scientific evidence: that’s maybe one way of jogging people out of their….they really have a bias against God’s closeness or care of them. They’d rather not have it. They wouldn’t want it to interfere with their private lives.
So that’s what long life is for, I guess, to detach you from everything else you can do so you finally agree to let God take over more and more
Lo que el silencio hace es transformarse en la presencia de Dios
Es por eso que el silencio no es solo silencio o vacío o nada, sino un preámbulo para ella, y es la mejor preparación que existe porque entonces no hay obstáculos. Y el amor de Dios, como es tan penetrante, simplemente entra, como el clima, y como el clima llena cualquier espacio vacío. En lo personal creo que de hecho durante gran parte de mi vida - y creo que durante gran parte de la vida de la mayoría - no me daba cuenta de lo cercana que es la relación que Dios tiene con nosotros, y que quiere tener. Es por eso que menciono repetidamente la evidencia científica: esa es quizá una manera de sacudir a las personas y sacarlas de su ... tienen realmente un prejuicio respecto de la cercanía con Dios o de su cuidado para con ellas. Preferirían que no fuera así. Preferirían que no interfiriera con sus vidas privadas.
Así que para eso es una larga vida, supongo, para separarnos de todas las otras cosas que podemos hacer para que finalmente accedamos a dejar que Dios se haga cargo cada vez mas.
