Abandonment to God’s will is the main issue, is crucial. And that you can’t do that without
recognizing your nothingness as a creature and also your failure as a human being to carry out
the commandments even when you know what these are. And, at the same time, it’s using our
experience of weakness, powerlessness, failure, even sinfulness to recognize God’s humility and
love in instituting a personal relationship with us by calling us out of the void into consciousness – consciousness that is limited by our evolutionary process but which since the coming of
Christianity and probably from the beginning of time has been available to people who have
been introduced to the presence to God in ways that are more normal and ordinary in daily
life than the average person experiences.
But I don’t know whether you’ll discover the ontological unconscious without the discipline of silence and listening, deep listening, however you get to that place. But silence, of course, is almost … well, it’s one of the great accesses to God’s presence within us. But it’s also so close to God that they’re almost psychologically indistinguishable. So that’s why, as prayer develops, the less you do, the more God does. But you can’t explain that to other people. They have to experience it. But you can urge them: “Just do it!” And do it every day. And when you feel attracted, maybe you’ll do it a little longer – especially as you get over 75.

Abandonarse a la voluntad de Dios es lo principal, es crucial. Y no podemos hacerlo sin reconocer que no somos nada como creaturas, ni reconocer nuestro fracaso como seres humanos para cumplir con los mandamientos, aun cuando sepamos cuales son. Y. a la vez, usa nuestra experiencia de debilidad, impotencia, fracaso, aún la de capacidad para pecar, para reconocer la humildad de Dios y su amor al establecer una relación personal con nosotros, llamándonos desde el vacío a la consciencia. Ésta está limitada por nuestro proceso evolutivo, pero desde el advenimiento del cristianismo, y probablemente desde el principio de los tiempos, ha estado disponible para aquellos que han sido introducidos a la presencia de Dios de formas que son más normales y ordinarias en la vida diaria que lo que experimenta una persona promedio.
Pero no sé si ustedes podrán descubrir el inconsciente ontológico sin la disciplina del silencio y la escucha, la profunda escucha, como sea que accedan a ese lugar. El silencio es, por supuesto, casi… bueno, es uno de los principales accesos a la presencia de Dios en nuestro interior. Pero también está tan próximo a Dios que son psicológicamente casi indistinguibles. Es por eso que, a medida que evoluciona la oración, cuánto menos hacemos nosotros más hace Dios. Pero no podemos explicarle eso a otros. Tienen que experimentarlo. No obstante, sí podemos instarlos a que simplemente lo intenten. Y a que lo hagan todos los días. Y cuando nos sintamos atraídos, quizá queramos hacerlo por más tiempo – especialmente si tenemos más de 75
