We live in an age that is expressively individualistic.
It’s very hard to get anybody to understand
what the common good even is.
It’s just a word or an abstraction,
and the idea of sacrifice of oneself
or one’s desires for the good of the whole
is restricted to wars and other patriotic excesses
at the moment. So what humanity needs
is a balance between the facts
that at the same time, in our inmost being,
we are both individual and social.

Live in a manner worthy of the call
you have received, with all humility
and gentleness, with patience,
bearing with one another through love,
striving to preserve the unity of the spirit
through the bond of peace:
one body and one Spirit,
as you were also called to the one hope
of your call;
one Lord, one faith, one Baptism;
one God and Father of all,
who is over all and through all
and in all.

El Sacrificio de sí mismo & El Bien Común
Es muy difícil hacerle entender a alguien lo que significa el bien común.
Es simplemente una palabra o una abstracción
Y la idea de sacrificarse a sí mismo
o los propios deseos para bien de la totalidad
se limita a las guerras y a otros excesos patrióticos
por el momento. Por lo tanto lo que la humanidad necesita
es equilibrar los dos aspectos
que al mismo tiempo, en nuestro ser más íntimo,
somos a la vez individuales y sociales.

con toda humildad, mansedumbre y paciencia,
soportándoos unos a otros por amor,
poniendo empeño en conservar la unidad del espíritu
con el vínculo de la paz.
Un solo Cuerpo y un solo Espíritu,
como una es la esperanza
a que habéis sido llamados.
