During four days of filming in December 2010, Fr. Thomas Keating sat with Fr. Carl Arico, his long-time friend, colleague, and founding member of Contemplative Outreach in an intimate conversation focused on the transformative process of death and dying as part of, rather than the end of, life’s journey. The Gift of Life: Death & Dying, Life & Living offers a vision of hope and a view of reality that counter the cultural norms that view death as a tragedy, or the end of living, or an entry into harsh judgment and retribution.
Over six hours of footage from the interview was not used in the series. Each week during 2013, bits of this unused footage will be posted to the website. We call these tidbits Gifts for Living …. May it be so.

Freedom is what makes us perhaps most like God and we find ourselves becoming more and more perplexed by just who we are and we don’t know true happiness is. We don’t know God in a relational way. We have this immense ego that really prevents us from manifesting the beauty of the human spirit and its capacity to integrate itself first body, soul and spirit; and then out of that unity, to unify with all of reality, of course, beginning with the Ultimate Reality of God.

La libertad es lo que quizá nos hace más semejantes a Dios y nos encontramos cada vez más perplejos por tratar de saber quiénes somos y no conocemos la verdadera felicidad. No conocemos a Dios de una manera relacional. Tenemos este ego inmenso que realmente nos impide manifestar la belleza del espíritu humano y su capacidad para integrarse, primero como cuerpo, alma y espíritu, para luego, desde esa unidad, unirse con toda la realidad, por supuesto, comenzando con la Realidad Máxima de Dios.
