Fr. Thomas: “Help!” in other words, is one of the primary prayers of the Christian religion, and it really means, “Thy will be done.” The two are synonymous. Because “help” is not, “help me because I’m me,” but “help me because I want to manifest Christ for the glory of God in my particular weakness.” …
Betty Sue Flowers: I just want to ask a question here about the help, because I think many people saying, “Help!” at first at least mean, “Help me the way I think I need to be helped. Heal me, or give me that . . .”
Fr. Thomas: Not what it means.
Betty Sue Flowers: Right. And it’s only later that you discover what real help is.
Fr. Thomas: So why would God answer that kind of prayer? He doesn’t.
Betty Sue Flowers: They know, they think, what help consists of. And when it doesn’t come in that form, they think their prayer is not being heard. …
Fr. Thomas: This is one of the greatest prayers of all time. Especially if it’s understood as meaning: give me the only help that’s real anyway, which is, “Your will be done.” That’s what its primary meaning is So, just to think of what “help” is. Think of the levels of psychological angst or concerns that that cry might emerge from, whether it’s a word or just a movement of the heart. “Help” can be the uttermost expression of desperation, or it can be just a casual request to find the pencil that you just lost.

Padre Thomas: “¡Auxilio!” es una de las oraciones primordiales de la religión cristiana, y realmente significa “Hágase tu Voluntad”. Los dos son sinónimos. Porque “Auxilio” no es “auxíliame porque yo soy yo,” sino “auxíliame porque quiero manifestar a Cristo para gloria de Dios en mi particular debilidad.”…
Betty Sue Flowers: Sólo quiero preguntar algo aquí acerca de la ayuda, porque creo que muchas personas que piden auxilio en un principio al menos quieren decir “ Ayúdame del modo que creo que necesito ser ayudada. Sáname, o dame eso---"
Padre Thomas: No es lo que significa.
Betty Sue Flowers: De acuerdo. Y es solo más tarde que descubrimos lo que realmente es la ayuda.
PadreThomas: Entonces, ¿por qué habría Dios de responder a ese tipo de oración? No lo hace.
Betty Sue Flowers: Ellos saben, suponen, en qué consiste la ayuda. Y cuando no llega de esa forma piensan que su oración no esta siendo escuchada…
Padre Thomas: Esta es una de las más grandes oraciones de todos los tiempos. Especialmente si se comprende que significa ¨dame la única ayuda que es real de todos modos, que es “hágase Tu Voluntad.” Ese es su significado primordial. Así que pensemos en lo que significa el auxilio. Pensemos en los niveles de ansiedad psicológica o preocupación de los que puede emerger ese llamado, ya sea como una palabra o como un movimiento del corazón. “Auxilio” puede ser la máxima expresión de desesperación, o puede ser solo un pedido casual de ayuda para encontrar el lápiz que acaban de perder.
