[excerpt from email]: To Practice: In the light of interior awareness, notice when judgments arise this week about persons or situations.  How are these moments a mirror for you? Practice the Welcoming Prayer with the sensations evoked by the judgments or the mirror.

This week I learned about Circle of Trust retreats based on the work of Parker Palmer, who I read and follow often. One of the Circle of Trust’s touchstones is, “no fixing, saving, advising, or correcting.” As I assume most of us know, this mantra is much easier to say than to practice.  I wonder if we begin to accept this thought into our hearts, will our light increase and our judgements lessen? Will it increase the love for ourselves and, in turn, improve our relationships?

I may add this to my Lenten practices.

Blessings on your journey / Carl

So like Carl, i am trying to learn not to fix, not to advise, not to analyze or evaluate… just to be and let be. my avenue of formation is the compassionate listening project. this week it occurs to me to cultivate inner silence in keeping with my centering prayer practice: to “forget” all i know, all my techniques, even the gidelines for reflective listening, just witnessing. it a time to more consciously reside in liminal space.

this is easy to do with my tribe. the rubber really hits the road (for now) when engaging with current events, and on that rather unfortunate invention: social media.

Sunday March 14: Opening Our Eyes

Moments of judgment are times for me to sit back, take a deep breath (or three), and examine which of my emotional centers are being triggered. When I can let go of needing to judge, I can be freer to love and to pray for the person or situation. I can respond from grace, not react with emotion. <3 linda
