Q: I have joined a Centering Prayer group in which the leader asks people to share their prayer experience with the person next to them. This does not seem to fit with Father Keating’s message. What do you think?
A: It is good to share your faith experience but not what happened during the prayer. If you know this is expected, you divert your attention and part of you is watching while you are praying to see what is going on. You begin to grade your prayer. It would be better to share the fruits you are experiencing outside of the prayer time. This way you can celebrate how the Holy Spirit is working in your life. Thank you for your fidelity.
