The spiritual journey is a process that parallels the process of life. If you have to let go of lower forms or ideas of perceiving reality that are proper to infants and children in order to get to mature views of reality, then why be surprised if you have to do the same in the spiritual plane? And that’s really what the Dark Nights are about. They’re a passive infusion of Divine Love that assists to do what we are too weak to do, or haven’t got quite the guts to do under our own human initiative, which is to face the things in ourselves that are obstacles to growth and to allow them to die by letting go of them. But that doesn’t mean that they’re rejected. It means that what was good is preserved or integrated into now a higher view of Christ or of God. All that’s let go is the childishness or the undue identification with human props that are no longer useful tools in the spiritual journey that served us at one level of our journey but which now have to be laid aside and we have to pick up a new set of tools that’s proportionate to the new wisdom or reality that we’re dealing with.
La travesía espiritual es un proceso similar al proceso de la vida. Si tenemos que dejar ir formas o ideas inferiores de percibir la realidad que son propias de los niños para acceder a formas maduras de la realidad, entonces por qué sorprendernos si tenemos que hacer lo mismo en el plano espiritual? Y eso es en realidad en lo que consisten las Noches Oscuras. Son una infusión pasiva del Amor Divino que nos ayuda a hacer lo que somos muy débiles para hacer, o no tenemos el coraje de hacer por nuestra propia iniciativa humana, que es enfrentar las cosas en nosotros que son obstáculos al crecimiento y permitirles morir dejándolas ir. Pero eso no significa que sean rechazadas. Significa que lo que era bueno se conserva o se integra a la que ahora es una visión más elevada de ver a Cristo o a Dios. Lo único que se deja ir es la inmadurez o la indebida identificación con muletas que ya no son necesarias en el camino espiritual, que nos sirvieron en un nivel de nuestra travesía y que ahora tenemos que dejar de lado y hacernos de un nuevo conjunto de herramientas acorde con la nueva sabiduría o realidad a la que accedemos.
