The human condition then is poignant because we’re sort of stuck between heaven and earth. You might even say crucified between heaven and earth and that’s why the cross without a body on it is a singularly good image of where human life actually is. We can’t – we feel we can’t – go back. We feel we can’t go up under our own steam. So what do you do? Be crucified, I guess. And this is why the oneness of the human family prompts us to reach out to everyone else who’s basically in the same radical situation of infinite possibilities for happiness in the most fragile container you could possibly think of.
La Conmovedora Condición Humana
La condición humana es conmovedora porque de algún modo estamos atrapados entre el cielo y la tierra. Hasta podemos decir que estamos crucificados entre el cielo y la tierra, y es por eso que la cruz sin un cuerpo en ella es una buena imagen de la vida humana en su condición actual. No podemos – sentimos que no podemos – retroceder. Sentimos que no podemos avanzar por nuestras propias fuerzas. Entonces, ¿qué hacer? Ser crucificados, supongo. Y es por eso que la unidad de la familia humana nos impulsa a tratar de comunicarnos con todos los demás que están esencialmente en la misma situación extrema de infinitas posibilidades para ser felices, dentro del recipiente más frágil que pudiéramos concebir.
