Fr. Carl: Of all the things that you’ve taught, what do you think is the greatest contribution you made to help all of us understand more the contemplative dimension of the Gospel?
Well, I would say that my ideas, like everything else in my life, have changed and keep changing. Your vision improves as the spiritual journey expands rather than diminishes as in the physical realm. I don’t know what I say to that because I don’t know what I’ve contributed – whether I contributed anything.
I continually pray that I don’t lead anybody astray or injure their faith in some way but I do think we have to stretch our understanding of some terms and some dogmas to include the vision that mystics or those advancing in stages of consciousness perceive spontaneously as they become liberated from the narrowness of their attachment to sense experience – not that it isn’t good, but it’s never the whole story.

Padre Carl: De todas las cosas que has enseñado, ¿cuál crees que ha sido tu mayor contribución para ayudarnos a todos a entender más acerca de la dimensión contemplativa del Evangelio?
Bueno, yo diría que mis ideas, como todo lo demás en la vida, han ido cambiando y lo siguen haciendo. Nuestra visión mejora a medida que la travesía espiritual se expande en lugar de disminuir, como sucede en la dimensión física. No sé que diría como respuesta porque no se si he contribuido en algo.
Continuamente oro para no llevar a nadie por mal camino o dañar su fe de algún modo, pero sí creo que tengo que ampliar mi comprensión de algunos términos y dogmas para incluir la visión que los místicos y los que están avanzados en las etapas de conciencia perciben espontáneamente cuando se liberan de la estrechez y apego a la experiencia sensorial – no que esto no sea bueno, pero no es nunca toda la verdad
