Fr. Carl: If you had 20 more years of life and prayer and also to study, what would you like to explore?
Well, what I’m interested now is the surrender to the movement of letting go of the false – not only the false—self, but the self-identity in the sense of being concerned about the work I’ve done or the work I might do. In other words, I’m at the point where I don’t want to do anything except God’s will and that may be nothing but nothing is one of the greatest activities there is. It takes a surprising amount of time! And so that’s the direction I’m interested in and what time is left each day is an opportunity, I hope, for God to take over my life more completely on every level and in every detail.

Padre Carl: Si tuviera veinte años más de vida y oración y también para estudiar, ¿qué le gustaría investigar?
Bueno, lo que me interesa ahora es la entrega al proceso de dejar ir el falso yo – no solo el falso yo sino la falsa identidad, en el sentido de preocuparme por el trabajo que he hecho o que puedo llegar a hacer. En otras palabras, he llegado al momento en que no quiero hacer nada excepto la voluntad de Dios, y eso puede significar no hacer nada, pero no hacer nada es una de las más importantes actividades que existen. ¡Lleva una cantidad de tiempo sorprendente! Y esa es la dirección que me interesa, y en el tiempo que sea que queda, cada día es una oportunidad, espero, para que Dios se haga cargo de mi vida más completamente y en cada detalle
