The Eucharist is a sacrament that manifests
as well as communicates this kind of transformation.
What’s the Eucharist about?
Transforming the species of bread and wine
into your body while, as Augustine says, this Holy Spirit of God
is transforming the whole of your body, soul, and spirit
into the Mystical Body of Christ.
In this way, you become a living cell
in this greater entity that is the Mystical Body
that is growing through the generations
and building up the full stature or full age of Christ,
to use Paul’s terminology.

But grace was given to each of us
according to the measure of Christ’s gift
… to equip the holy ones
… for building up the Body of Christ,
until we all attain to the unity of faith
and knowledge of the Son of God.
… living the truth in love
… growing in every way into him who is the head,
Christ, from whom the whole body, joined
and held together by every supporting ligament,
with the proper functioning of each part,
brings about the body’s growth
and builds itself up in love.

Deificación por medio de la Eucaristía
La Eucaristía es un sacramento que manifiesta
a la vez que comunica este tipo de transformación.
¿En qué consiste la Eucaristía?
En transformar los elementos del pan y el vino
en nuestro cuerpo, en tanto, como dice Agustín,
este Santo Espíritu de Dios
está transformando la totalidad de nuestro cuerpo, alma y espíritu
en el Cuerpo Místico de Cristo.
De esta forma, nos hacemos células vivientes
de esta entidad mayor que es el Cuerpo Místico
que esta creciendo a través de generaciones
para alcanzar la totalidad de la talla o la edad completa de Cristo,
por usar la terminología de Pablo.

Sin embargo, cada uno de nosotros ha recibido su propio don,
en la medida que Cristo los ha distribuido…
en orden a la edificación del Cuerpo de Cristo,
hasta que todos lleguemos a la unidad de la fe y del conocimiento del Hijo de Dios,
…viviendo en la verdad y en el amor,
crezcamos plenamente, unidos a Cristo. El es la Cabeza
y de él, todo el Cuerpo recibe unidad y cohesión,
gracias a los ligamentos que lo vivifican
y a la acción armoniosa de todos los miembros.
Así el Cuerpo crece y se edifica en el amor.
