Centering Prayer Introductory Series

Sundays:  February 9, 2020, 1-5 pm; February 16, March 1, & March 8, 1-4 pm

Cost:  $85 for the series of four sessions   (First Session only, $40)

 Are you feeling a desire to deepen your prayer or to learn about the Christian contemplative path?

Centering Prayer is a method of prayer which prepares us to more fully receive the gift of God’s presence.  This is traditionally called contemplative prayer.  Contemplative prayer is the opening of mind and heart – our whole being – to God, the Ultimate Mystery, beyond thoughts, words and emotions.  Centering Prayer facilitates the movement from more active modes of prayer – verbal, mental, or affective prayer – into a receptive prayer of resting in God.  It emphasizes prayer as a personal relationship with God.

This introduction to Centering Prayer includes both instruction and group practice in a method that fosters contemplative prayer.

Joy Andrews Hayter, Ph.D. is a spiritual director, scientist, and Centering Prayer coordinator at Mercy Center.  She is dedicated to fostering Centering Prayer and other contemplative practices that help us become aware of God's ever-present love.

Catherine Regan, Ph.D. is a spiritual director, retired psychologist, and adjunct staff member at Mercy Center, primarily serving on the Centering Prayer team.  She has a special interest in fostering contemplative practices so urgently needed at this time in our world.

Marty Badgett has been practicing Centering Prayer for the past 25 years. He has facilitated introductory workshops, retreats, and days of prayer for many years. He is currently the Northwest Bay Area Contemplative Outreach coordinator.
