Reclaiming our Mystical Roots
Saturday, September 28, 2019
8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Dr. Rickey Cotton

This workshop focuses on the Christian Contemplative Heritage as a vital resource for today’s contemplative life. We begin the discussion with the Christian desert hermits who lived in Egypt, Palestine and Syria from the third to the fifth centuries AD, who sought to transcend themselves and live fully for God using both Jesus and John the Baptist as models. We’ll also look at their key monastic descendants ranging across the fifth to late nineteenth centuries.

Dr. Rickey Cotton is a Contemplative Outreach commissioned presenter of Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina and a member of the faculty for Contemplative Outreach’s Living Flame program. Rickey has developed and presented many contemplative workshops around the country, including ones on Meister Eckhart and Raimon Panikkar’s Christophany. He is a retired professor of English and department chair at Southeastern University.
