Centering Prayer is a method that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplation by cultivating interior silence and purity of heart. Centering Prayer was distilled from the profound and ancient teachings of the Christian contemplative heritage first evident in the early Desert Fathers and Mothers. The method, as taught by Trappist monk, Fr. Thomas Keating, O.C.S.O., uses silence and attention to encourage the development of alert receptivity of God’s presence and action within. An atmosphere of silence will be maintained during the retreat.
